Ruto said he was pleased to see a growing number of skilled professionals taking part in the programme, noting that their expertise is critical to its success.

President William Ruto on Friday hosted hundreds of graduate interns working under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme at State House, Nairobi, in a move aimed at highlighting the role of young professionals in national development projects.

The interns, drawn from different fields, were accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, as the President engaged them on their duties and the importance of their contribution to the housing initiative.

Ruto said he was pleased to see a growing number of skilled professionals taking part in the programme, noting that their expertise is critical to its success.

“I am happy when I see the men and women, professionals from the construction industry who are planners, surveyors, engineers, people who work in the ICT space. I am proud the housing programme is maturing and we have professionals, workers and consulting firms in the equation,” Ruto said.

He explained that the engagement with the interns reflects the government’s election promises to deal with real challenges facing citizens, especially the need for decent and affordable housing.

The President added that the programme is not only meant to deliver homes but also to give young graduates hands-on experience, build their skills, and allow them to take part in major nation-building projects.

Ruto also repeated his call for more investment in education, saying the sector is a key source of skilled workers and professionals needed to support development.

The Affordable Housing Programme, one of the government’s key initiatives under the Big Four Agenda, aims to reduce the housing shortage in the country while creating jobs and training opportunities for young Kenyans.
